A concert of music for four-hand piano plus voice featuring waltzes by Brahms and Strauss plus songs by Reynaldo Hahn and Hoagy Carmichael

February 23, 2018

Listen below to Muphen Whitney’s latest Podcast interview with Daniel Weiser to hear all about this fascinating program:

This will be a truly unique program with some rarely heard four-hand Waltzes by a neglected French female composer of the 19th century, Melanie Bonis, as well as music by the Waltz King Johann Strauss II.   There will also be love songs by Hoagy Carmichael and Reynaldo Hahn and some wonderful works by Brahms, Gounod, and Saint-Saens for voice with four-hand piano, including selections from Brahms’ Neue Liebeslieder Waltzes and  his Ziguenerlieder (Gypsy Songs).    This concert features two old friends from my Peabody years, pianist Daniel Lau and mezzo-soprano Kyle Engler, who are married.  Both have been fixtures in the Baltimore and D.C. musical scene for many years.  This will be a terrific way to celebrate a slightly belated Valentine’s Day.  Bring your dancing shoes and join us for some truly enchanting and melodious “Waltzes of Love.”
