“BROADWAY BABY” with soprano Amanda Horton and Baritone Roberto Flores—Oct. 18-22
AmiciMusic’s October program will took listeners on a fun ride to the Great White Way with arias, duets, and scenes from two great Broadway musicals, Irving Berlin’s “Annie, Get Your Gun” and Lerner and Loewe’s “Camelot”. Included will be such favorites as “Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better,” “They Say It’s Wonderful,” “If Ever I Would Leave You,” and “Camelot.”
The featured artists were soprano Amanda Horton, an Asheville native who has thrilled audiences with many featured roles with the Asheville Lyric Opera and solos with Asheville Choral Society along with baritone Roberto Flores, who studied in Germany, has soloed with the Asheville Symphony, and is a member of Pastyme, the premiere a capella ensemble of the Western Carolinas. AmiciMusic’s Artistic Director, Daniel Weiser, collaborated on the piano.

AmiciMusic presented “Musical Mothers” on Sunday, May 12th. Dr. Weiser played the music of Clara Schumann, Fanny Mendelssohn, Amy Beach, and many more women and mothers who were able to compose beautiful music under difficult circumstances, often without support from their family.

“The Jewish Spirit” with violinist Rachel Patrick, cellist Franklin Keel, and pianist Daniel Weiser—April 12-14, 2013
AmiciMusic presented “The Jewish Spirit” with violinist Rachel Patrick, cellist Franklin Keel, and pianist Daniel Weiser.  Ms. Patrick returns from Indiana to join forces with Mr. Keel, a graduate of Eastman School of Music and the Assistant Principal of the Asheville Symphony, as well as the cellist of the Opal Quartet. The program featured two of the most powerful Piano Trios in the repertoire, Mendelssohn’s Trio in C Minor and Shostakovich’s Trio in E minor, written in 1944 to honor the Jews who had died in the Holocaust. Both were incredibly emotional and dramatic works that showcased the resilience of the human spirit in the face of tragedy and hardship.

AmiciMusic presented “Song Bird” with soprano Jennifer Smith, winner of the 2010 Blue Ridge Talent Search, who returned to the region for this special program highlighting her incredible range and versatility as she sang Classical, ShowTunes, Musical Theater, and Popular music. Performances were March 29th, 30th and 31st.

“BY GEORGE”, the Life and Music of George Gershwin with pianist Daniel Weiser—March 15-17, 2013
AmiciMusic presented “BY GEORGE”, the Life and Music of George Gershwin with pianist Daniel Weiser. Dr. Weiser performed and spoke about Gershwin’s fascinating life, and how he rose from poverty as the son of immigrant Jewish parents to become one of the greatest American composers.

“TWO TO TANGO” with the Asheville Tango Orchestra—Feb. 15, 2013
On Feb 15th, AmiciMusic presents The Asheville Tango Orchestra, the premier Tango group in the Southeast featuring two violins, accordion, bandoneon, bass, and piano. This sextet tipico plays classic Argentinian Tango from the early part of the 20th century.

Feb 9th, AmiciMusic presented, “AN AMERICAN IN PARIS” featuring Amanda Horton, soprano, Roberto Flores, baritone, with Dan Weiser on piano. This one-time only HOUSE CONCERT highlighted American composers who spent time in Paris, including George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Ned Rorem, and more.

“Jewish Jewels” featuring Violinist Rachel Patrick, clarinetist Steve Loew—Jan. 31-Feb. 3, 2013
On Jan 31, Feb 2 and 3, AmiciMusic presented “JEWISH JEWELS”. Violinist Rachel Patrick and clarinetist Steve Loew were featured performers who were joined by violinist Ginger Kowal, violist Kara Poorbaugh, and cellist Franklin Keel presenting music by Jewish composers and works based on Jewish folk music. The program included Darius Milhaud’s Suite for clarinet, violin, and piano, Prokofiev’s Overture on Hebrew Themes, and a fun work by Srul Irving Glick called “The Klezmer Wedding.”

On Saturday, Dec 1st, AmiciMusic presented “TANGO NIGHT” with our very own Asheville Tango Orchestra, the premier tango orchestra in the Southeast. This fun filled evening was a dinner/concert with delicious food provided by Black Mountain Bistro served in an elegant sit-down style.

A special Musical Salon with solo piano music interspersed with interesting talks about the lives of Rachmaninoff, Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, and other late 19th century Russian composers.

AmiciMusic presented “An American in Paris” with soprano Amanda Horton and baritone Roberto Flores accompanied by Daniel Weiser. The program delivered music by French composers as well as Americans who lived and travelled in Paris, including Ned Rorem, George Gershwin, and Cole Porter. Great toe-tapping songs plus a solo piano version of Gershwin’s jazzy “American in Paris” suite.

“Cello-bration” with cellist Patrick Owen and pianist Daniel Weiser—Oct. 16, 18, 20, and 21, 2012
AmiciMusic presented “Cello-bration” with cellist Patrick Owen and pianist Daniel Weiser who performed great works of Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, and Piazzolla. Mr. Owen is a resident of Boston who just finished a stint as Assistant Principal Cellist of Charlotte Symphony. He has toured as a soloist through Europe and Japan and has degrees from Eastman, Juilliard, and Boston University.

“The Poetry of Beethoven”—Sept. 29, 2012
AmiciMusic presented “The Poetry of Beethoven” a wonderfully engaging evening of poetry and piano. This was a truly unique experience of Beethoven Sonatas, poetry based on the Sonatas, visual images of Beethoven, and a sit-down dinner provided by the Black Mountain Bistro. Artistic Director Daniel Weiser played movements from several great Sonatas, including the “Pathetique” and “Moonlight” and author Brett Klersfeld read from his new book entitled “A Poetic Homage to Beethoven’s 32 Piano Sonatas.”

“TANGO!!” with the Asheville Tango Orchestra—Sept. 22, 2012
AmiciMusic presented “TANGO!!” with the Asheville Tango Orchestra. The Asheville Tango Orchestra is a classic Sextet Tipico, and they were formed in the fall of 2010 to provide live tango music at community gatherings in the South East. In their own words, “Our members are talented, passionate, and good looking.” Nothing more be said except that we had an amazingly good time. Be sure not to miss the next one in December.

“The Romantic Cello” featuring California- based cellist Margaret Moores—July 20-22, 2012
AmiciMusic presented “The Romantic Cello” which featured California- based cellist Margaret Moores along with Daniel Weiser on piano. Those who attended were treated to a most wonderful performance of works by Felix Mendelssohn and Edvard Grieg.
This concert was enjoyed on Friday, July 20 at the White Horse in Black Mountain. It was also able to be seen in two different house concerts which were Saturday, July 21, at the home of Tom and Janis Crothers and Sunday, July 22 at the home of Sarah York and Chuck Campbell in Fairview .

Thrilling Threesome featuring flutist Sergio Pallottelli, violinist Joanna Becker, and pianist Daniel Weiser—July 12-15, 2012

AmiciMusic presented “Thrilling Threesome” featuring flutist Sergio Pallottelli, violinist Joanna Becker, and pianist Daniel Weiser in a program that included works by Schumann, Mozart, Shostakovich, Navarra, and Nino Rota.

Sensational Soprano with Maria Clark—June 28-July 1, 2012
“Sensational Soprano” with Maria Clark, soprano and Daniel Weiser accompanying on piano was an exceptionally entertaining and enjoyable performance. Everyone in attendance was treated a great mix of opera arias, lieder, and musical theater, including some wonderful George Gershwin songs. She was truly sensational!!.
The performances were Friday, June 29 at a House Concert in Biltmore Forest, Saturday, June 30 at White Horse in Black Mountain, and Sunday, July 1 at First Baptist Church in Weaverville.

One Wild Ride: Two Magical Pianos—June 10, 2012
The Francis and Weiser Piano Duo presented “One Wild Ride: Two Magical Pianos” with David Troy Francis and Daniel Weiser, pianists. Heard was the music of Gershwin, Guastavino, Milhaud, Rachmaninoff, and more.
There was only one performance of “One Wild Ride: Two Magical Pianos”. It was Sunday, June 10 at the Diana Wortham Theater in Asheville.

Totally Tango 3 with the Asheville Tango Orchestra—June 7, 2012
AmiciMusic presented “Totally Tango 3” with the Asheville Tango Orchestra, a Sextet Tipico with bandoneon, accordion, two violins, bass, and piano. It was great tango music and dancing in a wonderfully relaxed cabaret setting. Many came and danced or just listened to this great Argentinian traditional music.
A single performance was on Thursday, June 7 at the White Horse Black Mountain

An American Affair—May 30-June 3, 2012
AmiciMusic presented “An American Affair” with violinist Tim Schwarz and pianist Daniel Weiser. They performed the music of Amy Beach, Copland, Bernstein, and some virtuosic variations on Yankee Doodle. Formerly known as The Upper Valley Duo, this pair was the 1996 U.S. Artistic Ambassadors of Music. This honor saw them spending two months on a State Department tour of the Middle East and Southeast Asia performing American music and teaching. Their music has been described as a true melodic revelation.”
Performances were Wednesday, May 30 at Magnetic Field Theater, Thursday, May 31 at First Baptist Church in Weaverville, Saturday, June 2 at a House Concert in Arden, Sunday, June 3 at a House Concert in North Asheville, and Sunday, June 3 at White Horse Black Mountain.

Wind Power—April 20-22, 2012
AmiciMusic presented “Wind Power” with Alicia Chapman, oboe; Dosia McKay, flute; and Daniel Weiser, piano in a varied program of music by Telemann, Salieri, Madeline Dring, William Grant Still, and more. This very unique combination of instruments formed a truly wonderful ensemble.

Diva—April 14-15, 2012
AmiciMusic presented “Diva” featuring the incomparable Jennifer Smith, soprano, in a farewell performance before she heads out of the area to do some musical theater in Indiana for the rest of 2012. We will miss her, but wish her well as she starts on the road to Broadway. Jennifer was the winner of the inaugural Blue Ridge Talent Search contest in 2010 and has a remarkable range and ability to sing in a multitude of styles from opera to show tunes to jazz to pop. It was a superb night for this budding superstar who has wowed audiences with her voice, charisma, and power!! The performances were, Saturday, April 14 at the First Congregational Church in downtown Asheville and Sunday, April 15 at the White Horse Black Mountain.

Totally Tango 2—April 2, 2012
AmiciMusic presented “Totally Tango 2”, the second in a series of great tango nights featuring the Asheville Tango Orchestra at the White Horse Black Mountain. We danced or listened to a traditional Sextet Tipico featuring two violins, accordion, bandoneaon, piano, and bass performing classic Tango music in a fabulous cabaret setting.

The Luck of the Irish—March 16-18, 2012
The Luck of the Irish” with soprano Christine Cullen and pianist Daniel Weiser. This varied program included opera arias by Puccini and Verdi, lieder by Strauss and Faure, show tunes from “Finian’s Rainbow” and classic Irish songs such as “Danny Boy,” and “When Irish Eyes are Smiling.” This program was seen Friday, March 16th at 7:00 pm and Sunday, March 18 at 3:00 pm.

An American in Paris—March 8-11, 2012
“An American in Paris” with Amanda Horton, soprano, Roberto Flores, baritone, and Daniel Weiser, piano. This program features music by American composers who traveled in France, including Aaron Copland, Cole Porter, and George Gershwin.

Classy Clarinet—Jan. 29 and Feb. 9, 2012
In this program, clarinetist Fred Lemmons teamed up with pianist Daniel Weiser to perform wonderful music by Weber, Brahms, Debussy, Bernstein, and a fun Kelzmer-style work by Simon Sargon. This concert was seen Sunday, January 29 at 2:00 and Thursday, February 9 at 7:00.

It’s a Fine (Four-Hand) Romance – Francis & Weiser Piano Duo—Feb. 10-12, 2012
This program featured the debut of the Francis & Weiser Piano Duo, a new dynamic team of powerful pianists comprised of David Troy Francis and Daniel Weiser. This was a special Valentine’s Day-inspired program with music by Mozart, Faure, Borodin, Barber, and a fantastic four-hand arrangement of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue. It was a celebration of some of the most romantic and lyrical four-hand music ever composed.
